Definition of the importance of the active involvement of citizens in the event As often happens in the dissemination of activities and functions that relate to organizations and institutions, public entities and municipalities etc., the issue of involvement “from below” by citizens defines a problem that not only has a symbolic significance, but also representative of the received content and for cultural production that is meant to generate. This, like other elements of general communication, wanted to be a further element of attention and awareness to the EDLS. In order, therefore, to give maximum visibility to the activity of Platforma and to the central theme of the event EDLS, but also to help improve the active involvement of citizens in the public-private relationship, it was decided to operate in a context of participatory planning, inviting even in the preparation and development of the idea stage all the selected parties willing to get involved and expand the information and communication of the contents to be presented; then, they were, together with the testimonial, the main protagonists of the event, and ambassadors. Expected results

  1. Increased awareness and understanding of the citizens on the issues and on the role of decentralized cooperation and of the institutions that promote growth, thematic focus on the interdependencies between responsible consumption and sustainable economic growth and the situation of people in European countries, but also in developing (in particular women and young people of developing countries, and the factors that force them to migration)
  1. Increased capacity of civil society organization, Institution, University, from EU countries to network and engage citizens with whom they come in relation to: the strengthening of all the public-private partnership to better motivate citizens and influence the processes of collective participation

Promotion of the training of Platforma and AICCRE projects – particularly those that create networks and provide training see cooperation and others – and affect all potential policy makers to implement at regional, national and European instruments offered by AICCRE and the cooperative sector

Sustainability The participation of The Association of World Shops and many other representatives of civil society organisations involved in decentralised cooperation is a key factor of sustainability of the dialogue that was promoted during this week of seminars and debates. The Association of World Shops is an association founded in 1991 that campaigns for fair and decent social development in the south as in the north of the world, in the protection of all ethnic, cultural, religious difference. It coordinates a national and international network of 60 partners in cooperatives, shops and associations that deal with fair trade already operating and supports the creation of new, thus intending to help increase civic awareness on issues related to the development and change the relations of exploitation and injustice that regulate trade between North and south. It undertakes information activities, training and education to help exposing and changing the current rules of international trade, in charge of deprivation of the majority of the world population and the increasing degradation of the environment. It  promoted and collaborated in drafting the Italian Charter of criteria of Fair Trade and the most recent legislative work for the national law of fair trade. It also promotes local and regional legislative work, in collaboration with the institutions, for a solidarity economy framework law.

Results Within the first edition of the European Days of Local Solidarity, AICCRE has organized and hosted at its premises in Rome a 5 days open door with conferences, debates, exhibition corners, videos and exchange of knowledge among civil society organizations, experts, citizens and policy makers. “In these days we have experienced a participatory model: the more we involve citizens and we solicit values of solidarity and change the more this fluid movement will enlarge…it is from the bottom-up of local realities that virtuous model can be built” says Carla Rey, Secretary general of Aiccre during the press conference opening of the activities. Partner of the event was the Association Botteghe del Mondo (member of the World Fair Trade Europe) “I represent an association that has at international level 80 shops, five thousand volunteers, and 20 projects concerning both the manufacturing company in the Southern Hemisphere and the Italian Fair Trade. This is an opportunity to present our social and cultural activities, “explained Massimo Renno, President of Botteghe del Mondo. The Deputy Chiara Scuvera declared that the law on Fair Trade is currently before the Senate and it provides for the recognition of a network of solidarity economy with a very important role of subsidiarity for the Organizations. A local example in the Rome metropolitan area has been well explained by  Riccardo Troisi, researcher in Economics at the University of Cooperation in Bogota, Colombia: only in Rome there are 160 groups of solidarity purchasing groups, 130 urban gardens, 15 fair trade shops. The research monitored  55 territories in 32 countries, of which 26 in Europe. Local becomes global also when we put the person at very center of the economy, through projects like production of local food for the community. The session Decentralization and Cooperation focused on the experience of the social cooperative Barikamà (Resistant in Bambara language), a micro-income project for social integration that sees the organic yogurt production and its sales in solidarity circuits in Rome. The project is run by young Africans who were excluded from official channels of reception and re-employment. Thanks to this project they received a residency permit for humanitarian reasons. Social inclusion, work self-management and the possibility to re-create the same working experience with the acquired skills and competences back to their countries are the “best practices” of the project where cities must become inclusive and sustainable places. An important session has been addressed to students with the Association Lo Facciobene (I Do it Well). Aim of the Association is to show how we can act positively for the common good by stimulating change through examples, informing, raising awareness and intercepting different social and cultural context starting from education in schools a place where social innovation and dialogue is possible.
Partnership Talking about solidarity in Italy requires the involvement of representatives of NGOs and civil society that are working in African and Asian countries to find a concrete and shared decentralized cooperation model.
