European and international meetings on the theme of the impact of Covid-19 on local and regional authoritiesii are being held non-stop, even in this period of emergency: Carla Rey, Secretary General of AICCRE, together with Thomas Weninger, Secretary General of the Association of Austrian Cities and Municipalities, and Christophe Chaillou, Director General of the French section of CCRE/CEMR, were among the guests invited to the meeting of the PES (Socialist Local Representatives in Europe) bureau on 29 April. Rey illustrated the situation in Italy during the covid-19 pandemic and what kind of impact it has had on local services: which have changed and which have been maintained, from transport to schools, from home to shops, from culture to environment, from public spaces to financial aid. The head of AICCRE also focused on dialogue between the various levels of government. At the bureau’s request, as the CCRE/CEMR has the Italian presidency with Stefano Bonaccini, Carla Rey was also invited to explain the position of the CCRE/CEMR, “which is in dialogue with the European Commission for emergency measures. As President Bonaccini had already stated in a letter recently sent to the Commission, for European territories there are not enough medium and long term interventions, such as cohesion funds, but immediate and specific measures for local and regional authorities are needed”, concluded the Secretary General of AICCRE.
